MOISTURE DETECTOR

Moisture content detector for wheat grains, stored in jute bags.

Annually, about 62000 tonnes of food grains, mainly comprising of rice, wheat,
pulses and cereals are wasted due to improper storage and spoilage. Grains
develop enough moisture to prevent themselves from rotting. When government
realises and identifies dunnage, immediate actions are taken to segregate and recondition
stock. Grains are spoilt in whole batches. The government faces a lack of cold storage,
which also adds up immensely to expenses. This is a situation of ‘grain drain’ whereby an
unexpected and huge quantum of grains are wasted and dumped. Moisture is the biggest
reason for dunnage of grains. To identify moisture content in wheat filled grain bags, a device
has been designed and developed. The moisture detector detects and signifies the content of
moisture. An ergonomic device, which can be pierced through a jute bag to measure moisture
content, for avoiding spoilage of grains.
